The Ylläs area offers over 400 kilometres of snowmobile routes. The maintained trails vary in difficulty and scenery, so there is something suitable for every skill level. One special feature of Ylläs is that you can ride a snowmobile all the way to the top of Kuertunturi and Yllästunturi, which is a rare experience in Finland.
The variety of snowmobile routes in Ylläs is one of their main attractions. There are both long and short routes across flat marshland, through forests, and even on fell tops. Services are always close by when riding near Ylläs.
On evening rides, there is also a good chance of seeing the beautiful Northern Lights if the sky is clear.

The main rules governing snowmobiling are set out in the Road Traffic Act, the Off-Road Traffic Act, and the Off-Road Traffic Decree.
A helmet is the most important safety item for a snowmobiler, and it is therefore mandatory for both the driver and any passenger riding on the snowmobile.
The driver is responsible for ensuring that any child under 15 years of age wears a protective helmet. The helmet requirement also applies to passengers travelling in an open sled. However, the obligation to wear a helmet does not apply to passengers in an open trailer attached to a snowmobile or heavy snowmobile when the speed does not exceed 20 km/h and this is indicated by a speed sign as referred to in section 102.
